About Kumarakom
IT is a true paradise: a maze of backwaters with glistening water, the vivid green of mangrove forests, coconut trees line the embankments, azure skies, and thousands of migrating birds skimming the water! Over seven million tourists travel to Kerala each year; the National Geographic Magazine has deemed it one of the must-see destinations of a lifetime. For most of these tourists, Kumarakom is a significant stopover. Scattered throughout the eastern shores of Lake Vembanad is this well-known backwater destination for tourists. The lake reaches its maximum length and width of approximately eight kilometers close to Kumarakom, in comparison to the other settlements. Situated on one side of a massive lake and traversed by a system of serene canals, Kumarakom is a man-made marvel that occupies a special place on the Kerala map.
